Auto & Motorcycle Accidents
From a fender-bender on Coleman Boulevard to a catastrophic interstate crash on I-26, we've spent four decades fighting for South Carolina drivers, riders, and passengers.

The cases we handle every week
Drunk Drivers
We pursue maximum punitive damages against intoxicated drivers and the bars that overserved them.
Distracted Driving
Texting, GPS, and phone use cause more SC crashes every year. Phone records can prove fault.
Commercial Trucks
18-wheelers cause devastating injuries. Federal rules and black-box data favor the prepared.
Motorcycle Crashes
Riders are too often blamed unfairly. We push back hard against insurance bias.
Rear-End & T-Bone
Howard recovered $205K for a client rear-ended by a drunk driver in Charleston County.
Hit-and-Run / Uninsured
Van created new SC case law to help victims of underinsured drivers recover compensation.
What to do after a South Carolina crash
Call 911 first — always. A police report is the single most important document in your case. If you can, photograph the scene, vehicle damage, license plates, and any visible injuries. Get names and numbers of every witness before they leave.
Then see a doctor — even if you "feel fine." Adrenaline masks soft-tissue injuries that surface days later, and any gap in treatment will be used against you by the insurance company.
Before you sign anything from an insurer or give a recorded statement, call us. The first offer is almost never the right one.
How fault is decided in South Carolina
South Carolina is a "modified comparative negligence" state. That means you can still recover damages even if you were partly at fault — as long as you were less than 51% responsible. Your award is reduced by your percentage of fault.
Insurance adjusters know this rule and use it aggressively. They'll try to push fault onto you to discount your claim. Our job is to push back with evidence: police reports, accident reconstruction, dash-cam footage, phone records, and witness statements.

Howard Taylor is bilingual and has dedicated his career to representing Hispanic and English-speaking SC drivers alike. Together, they have over 40 years of focused personal injury experience.

Auto & Motorcycle Accidents — FAQs
How much does it cost to hire you?+
Nothing upfront. We work on a contingency fee — we only get paid if we recover money for you, and our fee comes out of the settlement, not your pocket.
Should I accept the insurance company's first offer?+
Almost never. First offers are designed to close the file cheaply, before you know the full extent of your injuries or future medical costs. Talk to us first — for free.
What if the at-fault driver was uninsured?+
Your own uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage may apply. South Carolina law requires it on every policy. Van Taylor literally helped shape SC case law in this area.
How long do I have to file a claim in SC?+
Three years from the date of the accident, in most cases. Don't wait — evidence disappears, witnesses move, and memories fade.
Do I have to go to court?+
Most cases settle without trial. But we prepare every case as if it will go to a jury — and insurance carriers know it. That's how we get top-dollar offers.
